Sorcerors that fall before the Demon Horde run the risk of becoming Shades pressed into their service. These Shades hate the living and use whatever magical prowess they once possessed to destroy them.
There are several different varieties of Shades, each of which is skilled in a different sort of spellcasting. Eradicating them, thereby releasing them from their wretched existence, is considered by Sorcerors to be an act of compassion. Most are willing to take great risks to fight the Shades and lay their former comrades to rest.
